First Wednesday of the month
2.30 – 4.30pm
Each month a creative will be taking residence for a day in our Study. Taking inspiration from our collection they will be making, drawing and creating.
Take a look at what they make and drop in to our museum doodling session alongside the Creative in residence. Perfect for anyone who wants to take time out of their day to have a sit and a draw.
You don’t have to be skilled at drawing and any style is encouraged. Just turn up, grab a pencil from our pots and enjoy an excuse to look at our museum in a creative way.
The artists who can help out if you’re a bit unsure and show you some of their own creative methods. Just drop into the museum and you will be directed to say hi to the artist who can get you started.
On the 7th June we will be joined by Artist, Nell Smith.
Nell Smith Artists’ statement:
Taking inspiration from the labour behind hand-made work, I produce intricate drawings and prints. I love to make work that takes time, that is analogue, away from computer screens, enjoying the physicality and repetition of printmaking. This ranges from illustrations of tangible objects, and portraits, to large-scale geometric abstractions. I also run a small business from Manchester Craft and Design Centre where I design and print unisex baby clothing and contemporary works on paper. I have had a studio here since 2008, alongside teaching and running workshops.
My most recent collection is based on Staffordshire pottery, depicting the curious characters from figurines through detailed linoprints, carved by hand and using traditional print presses.
If you get involved you’ll receive a voucher for the Museum café for a cup of tea.
