POP NOIR COMING HOME TO MANCHESTER
Whether it’s performing as the indie dance duo Pop Noir or operating as design and animation outfit The Fantastic Heat Brothers, Manchester-born twins Joe and Luke McGarry have established themselves as powerhouses in the Los Angeles music and arts scene.
As Pop Noir, Joe and Luke have hit the Top 5 of the U.S. indie radio charts, headlined shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, London and Paris, shared the stage with the likes of Doves, Robyn and The Wombats and received support from tastemakers Clash and Artrocker to BBC Radio 6 and mtvU.
As Fantastic Heat Brothers, although they have a client list that spans Visa, Wells Fargo, the U.N. and the California State Lottery, they specialize in the music business, working closely with such West Coast festivals as FYF, Coachella and Festival Supreme, all the major Los Angeles clubs and promoters and a number of record labels. They have created animated music videos for Guster, Hoodie Allen, Conor Oberst’s Desaparecidos and Jack Black’s Tenacious D.
Much of their art output is centered around Luke’s award-winning cartoon style and to celebrate Pop Noir’s first hometown gig since In The City in 2006, the brothers will also be showcasing an exhibit of 20 examples of Luke’s iconic poster design and showing animated videos — including a sneak preview of their upcoming animated tribute to Manchester music.
Joining Pop Noir on stage for this show will be the brilliant drummer Donald Johnson from Manchester hometown heroes A Certain Ratio.
