Roll out the barrel! celebrates the amazing story of this flour barrel, sent all the way from America in 1863 to feed the people of Rochdale who were out of work and starving due to the Cotton famine. This barrel is the last of thousands which were sent as an aid package by Abraham Lincoln. Thousands cheered as it arrived on the docks at Liverpool and it is now on display in the museum. Join in the storytelling and find out how the American Civil War had an effect on Lancashire mills and why the people of Rochdale supported the abolition of slavery in America.
