After a run of sold out events at The Pickle Factory in London and The Cellar [Oxford], Goodness is landing in Manchester, bringing with it the best of the UK underground scene. Joining us to head the dance is Hessle Audio's mercurial Joe, who’ll be playing alongside Whities affiliate and eclectic producer, Reckonwrong, and Manchester favourite Phoebe Valentine. Lock in!

~ Joe [ Hessle Audio / Hemlock Recordings / Text Records ]

Since his first release on the revered Hessle Audio imprint in 2009, Joe has become an indelible name in the UK scene. In spite of his popularity amongst music-lovers, and the frequency of his playtime in both clubs and on air, the mysterious producer maintains a low profile, and is rarely seen. This enigmatic persona in a way matches his compositions: disorientating, witty, subversive takes on club music that charm, amaze and excite on listening. In an era of an exceptional volume of music production, Joe’s position amongst fellow UK producers is a rare instance of truly inimitable and distinctive creation.

His first releases, on Hessle Audio and Apple Pips Recordings in 2009-10, followed the post-dubstep mould that early-days-Hessle so successfully pioneered. Club anthems ‘Grimelight’ [HES007] and ‘Claptrap’ [HES014] are still staple tools in DJ sets today, combining techno, bass, dubstep and grime in an instantly recognisable drummy style. A second wave of productions, in 2012-13, demonstrate a more house-orientated sound, though not without distinctive peculiarities. Take, for instance, the haunted circus-cum-calypso bashment jam, ‘Punters Step Out’ [HEK022, recommended listening], or the Mahavishnu Orchestra-sampling ‘MB’ [HEK017]. It’s dance music in a whole new realm with a whole new set of rules, a truly unique listening experience.

Following a four-year hiatus from releasing on Hessle, Joe returned in 2017 with one of the year’s biggest records. You may have heard the leftfield samba jam ‘Tail Lift’ [HES032] in sets from the likes of Ben UFO, Call Super, Shanti Celeste and more, as it quickly became established as a dancefloor party anthem since its release last autumn. Combining bass weight with quirky sound design, ‘Tail Lift’ reminded the dance community of why we love Joe: weird, unpretentious, interesting, and fun dance music that makes you groove the night away with a smile on your face.

~ Reckonwrong [ Whities / Pinkman ]

London-based Reckonwrong is a name that has caught much-deserved attention on the circuit in recent years. Schooled in composition by internationally acclaimed musician Richard Ayres, whilst studying in Amsterdam, his productions stem from a plethora of musical influences, carving his way through grime, dancehall and New Wave inspired tracks within a definitive techno/house framework.

Since returning to London, releases on the acclaimed Whities imprint have seen his stock rise. ‘Luscious Lips’ sees a journey through rising metallic synths and energetic drum rhythms, whilst ‘Hansie’ witnesses a more aesthetically focused exploration in sound design and ambient production. His most recent release, ‘The Passions of Pez’ gained massive support in the underground: described as “avant-pop”, it contains New Wave instrumental elements alongside classic '80s vocals, and has featured notably in sets from the likes of Four Tet and The Pilotwings’ Boiler Room.

Though not averse to pushing the boundaries of dance music, Reckonwrong’s sets are quintessentially danceable, blending syncopated rhythms, 4/4 beats, international influences, and UK heritage. His 'Solid Steel' radio show for Ninja Tune is a must-listen, and he has received support from Avalon Emerson, Suzanne Kraft and FACT magazine, who recently regarded him as one to watch in house and techno. We can’t wait to see what he brings on the night.
