Abigail Ward will be coming to Salford to give a lively presentation exploring how queer music and club culture in Manchester helped redefine attitudes to sexuality across the city and beyond.
Abigail will share exciting visual material and unforgettable stories from the 1950s to the present day, taking in queer Manchester punk, the history of the gay village, the house music explosion of the early 90s and the alt-queer scene that sprung up in its wake. Featuring rarely seen images and footage courtesy of Manchester Digital Music Archive!
We're really excited to welcome Abigail Ward to Salford as part of our LGBT+ History Month series of events! Abigail is a co-founder of Manchester Digital Music Archive – an online archive established to celebrate Greater Manchester music and its social history. She specialises in curating music and heritage events, usually with a strong community focus.
As a DJ she specialises in creating unique, atmospheric mixes for a variety of venues and occasions, including a quarterly radio show on NTS live. She's played across Manchester at venues such as The Refuge, Manchester Art Gallery, HOME and Piccadilly Records.
We're really excited for this and we hope you are too! This is a free event so just come along and enjoy 🏳️🌈
