The organisers Mary McDougall and Joanna Brown are both competing in separate races to raise money and awareness for their chosen charities. Below you can read more into why they each cho...se their chosen charities:
Mary McDougall is raising money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland. In 2013, Mary’s Grandma died from Motor Neurone Disease and since then her family have been raising awareness and money to support the research. Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease involving degeneration of the motor neurons and wasting of the muscles. There is no cure. Mary is also taking part in a 5 Mile Tough Mudder Race on the 17th June, as a stand against Motor Neurone Disease which targets the very muscles she will need to complete the race.
Joanna Brown is raising money for Cancer Research UK, culminating in taking part in the Race For Life this July. Every year, there are more than 360,000 new cancer cases in the UK, and whilst the survival rate is now at 50% (having doubled in the last 40 years), new research is being carried out daily. This won’t be Joanna’s first Race For Life, having previously taken part after her aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Since then, Joanna has been an avid supporter of CRUK and hopes to raise lots more money through this event.
In advance of the event, Mary and Joanna want to say a huge thank you to the RNCM Popular Music course for helping organise and support this event. On top of that, the event would not even be possible without all of the 25 musicians involved who have given up their time to learn, rehearse and prepare for this event. It is such a blessing being able to perform with such fantastic musicians- so this event is really not one to miss! Let us know you are interested by clicking that you are going!
