This year’s Piano Day focuses on the art of American pianist Murray Perahia, celebrating repertoire that he has performed and recorded over a career that has spanned more than 40 years. Our day starts with three RNCM students playing to Murray Perahia in a masterclass setting, exploring in much detail works by Beethoven, Chopin and Schubert. In the afternoon we get to witness piano poetry performed by RNCM students, in the form of Chopin Impromptus and Ballades, a selection of Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words, and Schumann’s energetic and lyrical masterpieces, his Fantasie and Symphonic Etudes. Our evening recital brings together tutors from the School of Keyboard Studies in a concert of works for two pianos and piano duet, a medium that Perahia enjoys with his partner Radu Lupu.
