If you've never managed to visit the famous Salford Lads Club, then this is the ideal opportunity. A special in-conversation fundraising evening will be taking place at this iconic venue on Friday 15 June with two Manchester music legends, Mike Joyce (The Smiths) and Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets).
Mike and Clint will be talking drums, keyboards, life on the road and all sorts of other personal music memories, as well as the current Manchester music scene (and possibly a bit of 'top trumping')!
Both Mike and Clint are DJs and broadcasters who are currently on the airwaves via XS Manchester and can be heard/seen DJing in clubs all over the North West and beyond. They both have strong ties with Salford Lads Club.
Mike has been a big supporter of the venue since it became a must-see destination for Smiths fans from all over the globe. Last year he donated one of his own original Morrissey photographs for limited edition Salford Lads' Club T-shirts, as worn by Maxine Peake, Christopher Eccleston, John Thomson, Mark Radcliffe and, of course, Mike himself!
Aside from being Inspiral Carpets keyboard player and songwriter, Clint has written TV theme tunes and even had a film role or two. He is patron to SiMBA and often fundraises and supports the St Mary's Hospital Special Baby Unit. Last summer he co-organised a special tinnitus awareness and fundraising event at Salford Lads Club.
Salford Lads' Club is run by a group of amazing volunteers who will be happy to show off the incredible Wall of Names and the recently refurbished The Smiths Room to members of the audience on the night, both before and after the in-conversation event. Salford Lads' Club merchandise will be on sale at the end of the evening, including the aforementioned limited edition T-shirts.
There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask Mike and Clint questions with a Q&A so it certainly promises to be a very entertaining evening. Here's a little taster from a couple of short films Mike and Clint made for XS Manchester:
